Lawyers for Mr. Biden had discovered the documents in the offices of the Penn Biden Center and then immediately called the National Archives about the discovery, the White House said. She said the White House was committed to handling the case in the “right way,” pointing to the immediate notification of Mr. Biden’s personal attorneys to the National Archives.
However, she declined to say when Mr. Biden himself was informed, whether there were other classified documents potentially located in other unauthorized locations, and why the White House waited over two months. to reveal the discovery of the first batch of documents found on November 2, days before the midterm elections.
The White House and Justice Department declined to comment on Wednesday.
