After the mildness of the last few days, southern Quebec is returning to winter conditions thanks to a low pressure system that will bring significant amounts of snow for 36 hours starting Wednesday evening.
According to Environment Canada, which issued a special weather report, snow should begin to fall Wednesday evening and last until Friday morning with strong winds that could create blowing snow.
Estrie, Montérégie, Montreal, Gatineau, Drummondville – Bois-Francs, Lanaudière and part of the Laurentians are the sectors concerned by the BMS of the federal agency which forecasts difficult rush hours.
Even if uncertainties remain on the trajectory of this depression, the southern sectors of the province will be the most affected, since accumulations of 15 to 20 centimeters of snow, or even more in places, are expected, particularly in Montreal where it will be -12 degrees Thursday.
The rapid accumulation of snow is likely to make traffic difficult on the roads during Thursday’s rush hours, especially since the strong winds that will accompany the precipitation will cause temperatures to drop sharply.
Sectors in eastern Quebec will be relatively spared by the storm, since no large accumulations of snow are expected, but the mercury will be down with highs of -16 degrees, especially in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. and on the North Shore.
