A young New Mexico woman is facing first-degree murder charges for throwing her newborn baby in the trash cans at the hospital where she gave birth.
Alexee Trevizo, 19, presented to Artesia General Hospital on January 27 with back pain. There, tests revealed that she was pregnant.
The teenager then went to the toilet where she remained for 18 minutes. A little later, an employee of the establishment alerted the staff after seeing significant traces of blood in the bathroom. The employee lifted the garbage can from the toilets and discovered the body of the baby, who had died of asphyxiation.
In a video filmed using a body camera of a police officer, we can see Alexee Trevizo admitting his gesture to his mother.
“It came out of me and I put it in a bag,” the young woman told her mother, who replied, “In what bag?” The young woman replied: “The trash bag.”
In an interview with the Daily Mail, the defendant’s lawyer, Gary Mitchell, said his client did not know she was pregnant when she gave birth in the hospital toilets.
“She did not cause the death of the baby,” insists the lawyer. The latter adds that the father of the baby was also not aware of his girlfriend’s pregnancy and that he supported Alexee Trevizo.
