According to a survey by the Federation of General Student Associations (Fage) revealed by franceinfo, Wednesday January 10, nearly 20% of students do not have enough to eat. It’s the same bitter observation regarding housing.

Whether they are stock market holders or non-stock market holders, nearly 20% of students do not eat enough, according to a survey by the Federation of General Student Associations (Fage) revealed by franceinfo, Wednesday January 10. The cause: prices that are too high according to them, despite a meal costing 3.30 euros on average in university restaurants. A student non-scholarship out of five even give up eating in these restaurants. As a result, more than three meals are skipped per week by students.

41% of students forced to work for food

On the housing side, it’s the same bitter observation. A third of students who do not have a CROUS residence would like to have one. However, a third of these respondents say that they would not like to live in CROUS housing because of the unsanitary conditions. They point the finger at poor insulation or even the presence of pests. Another factor of failure for these students is insecurity. 41% of them are obliged to have food work alongside their training. This corresponds to more than 12 hours of work per week for 35% of them. A situation which could improve thanks to financial aid from the State, but three-quarters of students do not know that it exists.
