(Prague) Un homme armé a tué jeudi au moins 15 personnes dans la prestigieuse université Charles de Prague avant d’être « éliminé » par les forces de l’ordre, ont annoncé les autorités qui ont écarté la piste du « terrorisme international ».
« Rien n’indique que ce crime soit lié au terrorisme international », a déclaré à la presse le ministre tchèque de l’Intérieur Vit Rakusan.
« Plus de 15 personnes ont perdu la vie et au moins 24 ont été blessées », selon un dernier bilan fourni par le chef de la police tchèque Martin Vondrasek.
Un précédent bilan, donné par la porte-parole des services d’urgence Jana Postova, faisait état de « 11 morts sur les lieux, y compris le tireur ».
Plus tôt, la police tchèque avait annoncé sur X que l’assaillant avait été « éliminé ». « Le bâtiment est actuellement évacué et il y a plusieurs morts et des dizaines de blessés sur les lieux », a-t-elle ajouté.
Le service des urgences de Prague a raconté sur X qu’un « grand nombre d’unités ambulancières » avaient été déployées à la faculté, ajoutant que parmi les blessés il y avait des cas très graves.
Le président « choqué »
Le président tchèque s’est dit « choqué » par cette fusillade meurtrière.
« Je suis choqué par ces évènements […]. I would like to express my deep regret and my sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the shooting,” said Mr. Pavel, who ends a two-day visit to Paris on Thursday, on X.
The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen immediately sent a message of compassion to Prague.
“I am shocked by the senseless violence of the shooting which claimed the lives of several people today in Prague. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Czech people as a whole. We stand with you and cry with you,” she wrote in her post on X.

According to Czech media, the shooting occurred at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, whose teachers and students were ordered to lock themselves up during the police intervention.

Rooftop Shooter
The private television channel Nova TV reported an explosion and a shooter on the roof of the building located in the historic center of Prague.
The Minister of the Interior assured public television that the presence of “no other shooter” had been “confirmed” and called on the population to follow the police’s instructions.
Police closed the area and asked people living nearby to stay home.
