PQ MP Sylvain Gaudreault will not run for a sixth term

The member for Jonquière and former candidate for the leadership of the Parti Québécois Sylvain Gaudreault closes the political “chapter” of his life. The elected official will not run for a sixth term next fall.

Mr. Gaudreault made the announcement in his riding on Tuesday morning. “It’s time for me to finish this chapter,” he said.

The elected official is the second from the current PQ caucus to give up on the 2022 elections. Lorraine Richard also confirmed last month that she would not start.

Sylvain Gaudreault was elected in Jonquière in 2007. Since then, he has won all his races, except that for the leadership of the Parti Québécois. In October 2020, he finished second behind the current leader of the sovereignist formation, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.

Further details will follow.
