Ukrainian power plant damaged in Russian attack “massive” on the night of Wednesday June 19 to Thursday June 20, the latest targeting Ukrainian energy installations, announced its private operator DTEK. “Another difficult night for the Ukrainian energy industry. The Russians attacked one of DTEK’s thermal power plants”the company said in a statement, noting “serious damage” and three injured employees. This is, according to the company, the seventh attack “massive” targeting Ukrainian power plants over the past three months.
The national operator Ukrenergo, for its part, reported “a massive strike on assets relating to civilian energy infrastructure”occurred during the night. “Equipment of facilities located in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kiev region was damaged”added Ukrenergo, specifying that the extent of the damage was “to be clarified”.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia fired nine missiles and 27 Iranian-designed attack drones, adding that all but four of the projectiles were shot down. “Essential infrastructure equipment was attacked”the Ukrainian Air Force said. “The main objective of the attack was eastern Ukraine, in particular the region of Dnipropetrovsk”, which is one of those where DTEK operates. Air defense systems were also activated, especially in the Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Kherson, Kharkiv and kyiv regions, she added.
