Power outages: nearly 65,000 homes still plunged into darkness

Nearly 65,000 Quebec homes are still plunged into darkness due to hundreds of electrical outages on the Hydro-Québec network caused by the snowstorm raging in the south of the province.

The state-owned company noted, in its most recent report, some 63,966 households without power, the majority of outages recorded in the Laurentians.

“The outages are caused by vegetation which is weakened by heavy snow and gusts of wind,” indicates Hydro-Québec in a publication on X. The vegetation then comes into contact with the distribution network.”

“Recovery times are not currently known for a good number of locations, because our teams are assessing the damage and work required,” we add.

Nearly 1,000 employees of the state-owned company are deployed across the province with the aim of restoring power as quickly as possible.

During this time, some 2,034 Hydro-Québec customers in the Montreal region and 23,782 others in the Laurentians were waiting to be reconnected.

There are also 6,809 households affected by outages in Lanaudière and 8,641 in Laval.

Residents of Montérégie also suffered as some 8,207 households found themselves plunged into darkness due to these power outages, according to Hydro-Québec, which reported 9,786 customers deprived of electricity in Outaouais. .

In Estrie, more than 1,865 homes continued to be depressed on Thursday morning, according to Hydro-Québec’s report.

“The storm is not over and is still moving,” shares the state-owned company. Further outages could occur during the day with significant wind gusts expected in several areas.”
