Half a million homes are currently without electricity in Quebec. On the Hydro-Québec site, the cause of breakdowns is identified as “equipment failure”.
The outages are not concentrated in one place, affecting many neighborhoods. In Montreal, 135,000 homes are without power. A large part of Rosemont, Outremont, Griffintown and Côte-Saint-Luc, in particular, has no power. On the South Shore, Longueuil, Brossard and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu are hard hit. In the north of the island, several districts of Laval are showing blackouts, as well as Terrebonne.
In Quebec too, breakdowns are numerous. In fact, one in five households in the capital is affected by a breakdown, i.e. nearly 88,000.
No time is given for the restoration of electricity service.
The outages started around noon.
More details to come.
