In France, there is a shortage of chicken meat in butcher shops, which are finding it increasingly difficult to obtain supplies. 15 million poultry have been slaughtered in six months because of the avian flu epidemic.
In a Parisian butcher’s shop, there are no more chickens for sale, Wednesday April 27. The stalls are also empty for the boss of another butcher near Paris. He has a hard time finding poultry becausefor several weeks, its producer has been rationing. In six months, more than 15 million poultry have been slaughtered in France because of avian flu. This is five times more than last year. Chicken is the most consumed poultry in France.
In the Landes, a company specializing in the slaughtering and packaging of poultry is idling. To make up for this lack, some professionals could turn abroad. Problem : Ukraine, one of the largest producers in the world, no longer exports due to the war in the country. For the moment, the sector wants to be reassuring, and speaks of some supply tensions, but not yet of a shortage of chicken.
