After years as a social worker and carer, Guillaume Béguier found his way back to the family farm when his father retired. He passed a CAP butcher-caterer, before taking over the farm in 2018. He named his farm “Dau Chin Gâté”, a nod to his paternal grandmother who often called him “my spoiled little chin“, an expression to describe children who do stupid things. But it was said with so much tenderness…
He raises pigs, black magpie from the Basque country. The farm is in Chizé, surrounded by forest, which was originally its natural habitat, an ideal environment for this breeding, but taking care of pigs alone, processing them and selling them directly proved to be far too cumbersome. Guillaume Béguier moved on to raising chickens, which was much simpler.
Black naked neck chicken sold in the markets
Guillaume Béguier raises black-necked hens, a breed that adapts well to the outdoors and can wait a few more weeks for slaughter without gaining too much weight. Even if he does not have the label, the hens are raised under organic conditions. Its market customers know this very well.
He sells about sixty chickens and eggs in Melle every Friday morning under the halls. And since the beginning of April, under the halls of Niort, Thursday, Saturday and some Sundays. On weekends, it also offers roast chickens. Guillaume Béguier is going to launch an online reservation site: The dau chin gâté grocery store with its chickens and products from other producers in the region.
