Pot is no longer as popular

Cannabis seems to be losing popularity among Quebecers, a phenomenon observed by the Institute of Statistics of Quebec in all age groups of the population.

According to the report from the 2023 Quebec Cannabis Survey conducted among 13,200 people, 17.4% of respondents had used cannabis in the last year, compared to 19.4% in the previous study.

The finding is similar in all age groups, whether 15 to 20 years old (25.3% to 22.6%), 21 to 34 years old (37.5% to 34.4%) or 35 years and over (13.6% to 12%).

Furthermore, among younger people, marijuana has become particularly popular when vaped. In fact, 73% of young people aged 15 to 17 who consume it have opted for this method, even though no vapeable cannabis product is legally available in Quebec.

The majority of adolescents and young adults who use cannabis smoke at most a few times a month, noted the ISQ.

“Although this frequency is low, vaping cannabis could be risky among young people, because they are proportionally less likely than their elders to know the quantity of THC contained in the products they vape,” commented the organization .
