Postcards have largely been replaced by text messages and social networks. Yet they are resisting.
Be connected, even on vacation. To send news, the SMS is a reflex, but for many vacationers, the traditional postcard remains a must in the summer. “It’s just for a friend of my grandparents who lives in the countryside and I know that every time I leave, a postcard will make her happy. We write this and it goes straight to his heart“, says a young boy.
Behind the postcard, there is a story that can be discovered in a museum in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes). The postcard appeared in 1873 and experienced its golden age sixteen years later. “As soon as the cards started to have an illustration, there was a real madness that took hold of the public. We sent dozens and dozens of cards on all occasions and we used the postcards with the same frequency, the same intensity as nowadays young people use the mobile phone”explains Christian Deflandercollector and president of the Postcard Museum. Social networks have not replaced them. The 18-34 year olds are even the most fond of it, according to a recent study.
