Postcard | Where COVID-19 Doesn’t Exist (Part Three)

(Sunrise) The Canadiens’ players had all the miseries in the world sending a team to the ice on Saturday at Sunrise.

But on top of that, they had to land in an arena where almost all of the employees walk the halls without a mask, and when they have one, the mask is worn very casually, often around the neck.

Welcome to Florida.

It’s still quite astounding: the NHL is a business that exists for many reasons, starting with making money. The idea is to play games as usual and not let COVID-19 defeat the schedule.

But at the moment, we send players to work in environments that are not super safe. Like the Panthers arena in Sunrise.

To give you an idea, as of December 30, Florida had broken its record for COVID-19 cases, with almost 76,000 new cases during the day. The day before, we were at… 58,000 cases.

But that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Here, COVID-19 has become a way of life; the restaurants are open, but half-functioning, due to a lack of employees. The other day, we caught a boss complaining about the lack of personnel in his business… while accepting all customers without a mask.

It is in this world that the Canadian, already in bad shape, is unloaded.

We are going to say it another time: lucky that the weather is nice.
