Postcard | Saving in French

(Sunrise, Florida) What’s magical about arriving in this remote corner of Florida is that you can find fabulous discounts there.

Let’s face it, Sunrise, where the Panthers play, is not exactly a haven of peace. It is a kind of artificial city, planted between four highways and a lake, also artificial. It’s a bit like Kanata, but with palm trees.

Except that any self-respecting Quebecer loves Sunrise. Because often, you can come and see the Canadiens play here for a lot less than at the Bell Center — but maybe not on Thursday night, when resale prices have skyrocketed because of Dadonov’s return to the lineup — but also and above all, because it is here, just in front of the arena, that there is the Sawgrass Mills shopping center, an immensity that must be the equivalent of four Carrefour Laval.

It’s a proud tradition for CH fans who come here during the holidays: we go to see Canadian, but before that, we go to Sawgrass Mills to buy linens we couldn’t otherwise afford, often displayed at 50 % discounts.

Hockey experts do not shy away from this tradition, and in the past, dozens of us have come to take advantage of these discounts in French. We also take this opportunity to remind you that it is important to carry the linen with you when you return to the country, in which case branded and still labeled clothes can sow doubt in the minds of customs officers, such as a colleague, who will remain anonymous, learned this the hard way a few years ago.

Then, after the discounts, you have to go to the arena, a 30-minute walk that you do at your own risk, since the people who built Florida, for the most part, seemed unaware of the invention of the sidewalk. .

But it’s all good, it’s all very good. It’s warm here, finally. Moreover, during lunch on Thursday morning, providence placed a newspaper front page on our way, as if to remind us that we got out of Denver just in time last week.
