Possible salmonella contamination | Other Kinder products are being recalled

The list of Kinder brand chocolates to be recalled by Ferrero Canada due to possible salmonella contamination is growing.

Twenty products are now affected by this recall announced last week by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Advent calendars are added, among others, to the Easter chocolates “The Egg Hunt Kit”, “Mini Eggs” and “Kinder Surprise”, sold nationally.

The CFIA specifies in a press release that “no cases of illness associated with the consumption of these products have been reported in Canada”.

The agency invites you not to consume these products and rather throw them away or bring them back to the shops where they were purchased. It is advisable to contact your doctor if you believe you have been ill after eating one of the recalled products.

“Foods contaminated with Salmonella bacteria do not necessarily show any visible spoilage or suspicious odor, but can still make you sick,” the CFIA said in a statement.

She warns that young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems can get serious and sometimes fatal infections.

“In healthy people, salmonellosis can present with short-lived symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Salmonellosis can lead to long-term complications, including a severe form of arthritis,” the CFIA adds.

They are currently investigating food safety which may lead to the recall of other products.
