Possible drowning | Searches underway to find a child in the Saint-Maurice River

A major deployment is underway in Grandes-Piles, in Mauricie, to try to find a 4-year-old child who fell into the Saint-Maurice River on Sunday.

First responders were called to the scene around 6 p.m.

The municipality’s Fire Department has since been carrying out active searches on the watercourse, helped by citizens in their personal boats, while the banks are inspected by patrollers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“Every effort is being made to quickly locate the child,” said SQ spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay.
