(Montreal) A person disappeared Friday afternoon in the waters of the St. Lawrence River near the Jacques-Cartier wharf, in the Old Montreal area.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) has indicated that it is a man in his thirties whose identity is still unknown.
“It could be an accident or a voluntary act,” said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chevrefils.
A call to 911 around 4 p.m. reported possible drowning in the St. Lawrence River in Montreal. A man was reportedly seen having difficulty swimming and staying on the surface. According to the witnesses interviewed, the person was “drowning before seeing her disappear into the water”.
At the end of the evening, the body of the missing person had still not been located.
Mme Chevrefils said the search has been completed and the investigation continues to determine the circumstances of the incident.
