(Gatineau) The Gatineau Police Department (SPVG) announced Saturday that the “kidnapping” for which it had requested the public’s help Friday evening does not appear to be one.
Police initially asked for the public’s help Friday evening in locating the alleged victim, four suspects and a vehicle. The police force had notably requested the collaboration of citizens via publications on social networks.
The alleged victim of what was believed to be a kidnapping and three suspects presented themselves at the police station on Saturday.
“It is in response to these publications that this morning [samedi] we received the information which allowed us to locate the individuals, and obviously to communicate with them. It was not a police intervention as such, explained the SPVG public relations officer, Patrick Kenney. People showed up at the police stations, and we were able to meet them. »
Investigators took the version of events from the three possible suspects and the supposed victim, who are aged 16 to 19.
The SPVG had indicated that it had received a call concerning a person who had allegedly witnessed a kidnapping that occurred around 4:10 p.m., Friday, on Gauthier Street, near the intersection of Duquette Street, in the Gatineau sector. .
“Charges could be filed following the investigation given that it still mobilized a lot of personnel, obviously, it caused a false investigation. What it caused like [perturbation de la] peace in this neighborhood is not without consequences, it led people to contact 911 because they were really under the impression that there had been a real kidnapping,” explained the agent Kenney.
In addition to criminal charges, charges under the Highway Safety Code could be laid.
The four young people involved in this case are from Gatineau, and were not known to the police.
