Marine Tondelier, national secretary of EELV, and Xavier Bertrand, LR president of Hauts-de-France were the guests of “8h30 franceinfo”, Friday July 5, 2024. A possible government coalition, the time of parliamentary democracy… They answered questions from Agathe Lambret and William Gay Costa.

A possible coalition with “more social justice” for Marine Tondelier

“The direction is clear: more social justice and a rebalancing in terms of environmental justice”declared the national secretary of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier, on the subject of a possible government coalition, in the event of an Assembly without a clear majority in the second round of the legislative elections.

“The issue is not with whom [on travaille] what for ?”assures the head of the Ecologists. “It’s not the search for Nouvelle Star where we’re looking for the casting, we want to know what public policies”she continues. For Marine Tondelier, the government coalition’s program must be “base” on that of the New Popular Front, the left alliance being “arrival at the head of the republican coalitions” in the first round. “Discussions will focus on the program of the winning coalition force”she repeats.

Xavier Bertrand pleads for a “parliamentary democracy”

The LR president of Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand, pleads in favor of a “parliamentary democracy” as an alternative to a National Assembly without a majority. “There comes a time when you have to be able to say ‘we’re not denying ourselves, but we’re trying to see how we can move forward'”he explains.

“If we avoid an absolute majority at the RN next Sunday, we will have to get to work intelligently”he says. “The groups in the Assembly will have to be able to say: ‘the time for parliamentary democracy has come'”he specifies. The president of the Hauts-de-France region called for parliamentary alliances, outside LFI and RN, with circumstantial majorities depending on the bills. “On purchasing power, are there no ways to agree? To make health an absolute priority again, are there no ways to agree?”asks the former minister of Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy.
