Port of Quebec | Longshore workers give themselves a strike mandate

(Montreal) The Port of Quebec longshoremen have just voted 98.5% in favor of a pressure action mandate that could go as far as a strike.

They could go on strike as early as 9/11.

They are 81, members of a local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, affiliated with the FTQ.

As was the case during the labor dispute at the Port of Montreal, the Port of Quebec longshoremen claim to work long hours. Their union reports that the employer wants to implement 12-hour shifts.

Negotiations were not broken off with the Société des arrimeurs de Québec, however. Meetings are scheduled for September.
