Porsche Taycan: an update for more autonomy in 2023

Porsche is making some improvements and revisions to its Taycan electric car lineup for the 2023 model year. Earlier examples will also be able to receive a software update, the biggest since the Taycan launched three years ago.

First, know that the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo – the least expensive in the entire catalog – is withdrawn from the Canadian market. The base version of this wagon will now be the 4S, which costs at least $128,000.

Variable Light Control technology is now available with all Taycan models equipped with a panoramic roof and matches the roof rack that drivers install on top. There’s also wiring planned to add front and rear dash cameras. Finally, rim options have been replaced.

More range for all Taycans

What especially catches the eye is the series of software improvements enjoyed by the Porsche Taycan 2023. Good news: those who own a 2020, 2021 or 2022 model will also be able to take advantage of them, for free. They will receive a notification from the manufacturer when the update is ready and an appointment of approximately one day at a Porsche dealer will be necessary to apply it. It all depends on the features and functions already present on their car.

Thermal management is optimized, allowing the battery to precondition faster and at a higher temperature. As a result, the car’s range increases: up to 50 km according to the WLTP standard, Porsche tells us. The exact figures for Canada will be known later. It will also be possible to charge the battery at a higher power for longer.

Note that in Normal and Autonomy modes, Taycans that use the front motor little in certain situations will see the latter disengage almost completely in order to reduce friction and maximize autonomy.

Then, the setting of the regenerative braking system is retained even when changing driving modes, which is one less irritant. Then, on the dashboard, the all-wheel drive indicator now displays the energy transfers.

The user experience also improved

The infotainment system with Porsche Connect is improved on its side with an updated and more attractive interface, faster start-up and response time as well as the integration of Android Auto wireless and Spotify. The search for charging stations can be filtered according to their power. In addition, the head-up display is also modernized and more complete.

To be clear, there are no changes to the equipment or new components added. Everything is purely computer. The operation will make it easier for all Taycans to receive software updates remotely, so without a visit to the dealership, in the future.
