Populist speech | The duty

On the occasion of the French Prime Minister’s trip, François Legault paraphrased a word from President Macron, “France must remain France”, saying that he was governing, for his part, so that “Quebec remains Quebec” . This statement by the French leader must be seen in the context of a strong progression of the far right in France (Marine Le Pen’s party) and its anti-immigration policy.

This policy has a lot of support in France and greatly threatens the future of the Macronist party. I don’t know if the Quebec Prime Minister knew what the French president’s sentence was associated with, but it is poorly received by the center and the left in France. It is of the same version as the slogan heard in Quebec during large nationalist or patriotic assemblies “Quebec for Quebecers”. Which excludes or seems to exclude non-French-speaking Quebecers and “immigrants”. This is a populist speech, hardly inclusive of the other. Hazard.
