Popular song | Elton John and Bernie Taupin receive the Gershwin Prize

(Montreal) Singer Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin received the prestigious Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress last night.


The awards evening was highlighted by performances by Garth Brooks, Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile and Joni Mitchell. The group Metallica also took the stage to perform the success Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding.

A televised version of the event will air on PBS on April 8.

Created in 2007, the Gershwin Prize has already recognized icons such as Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and Carole King.
