Monday, August 1, Guadeloupe is in the grip of an invasion of sargassum on the beaches. It is a harmful algae that would be caused by too high a concentration of hydrogen sulphide.

They distort the landscape and make access to beaches dangerous. Sargassum has massively invaded the banks of the Sarcelle River in Guadeloupe. For several weeks, seaweed has been on the beach and Guadeloupeans regret not seeing the situation improve. The hydrogen sulfide present in the river causes rust even among residents who live near the river.

Thus, for health, a risk exists, but not only since the bathroom, the doors, and even the kitchen utensils are affected by hydrogen sulphide. “You have multiple effects. On the one hand from the breathing point of view, other effects that you can see at the level of the door handles, at the level of the tiles, it is unimaginable”, testifies Léo Guimard who lives nearby. The man does not want to leave. Since the beginning of July, the area has been on alert and the authorities are strongly advising residents not to approach it.
