Even before spring arrives, pollen allergies are already a problem. Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist at France Télévisions, is present on the set of 20 Heures, Wednesday February 21. He returns to the increase in pollen allergies in recent years. In 2001, 11 million people were allergic to pollen in France. In 2023, 16 million people were affected. “Almost all departments are now at high risk”allergy to pollen, specifies Damien Mascret. “This is normal because now, the pollen periods extend, covering almost the whole year”he adds.

Wear a mask if you go out during the day

Symptoms of allergic rhinitis include itchy eyes, runny nose, or scratchy throat. “You can also have a cough”, continues the journalist. Damien Mascret explains that, to reduce the risk of allergies, you need to ventilate the area where you are “in the morning, before the pollen is emitted, or after sunset”. The doctor also advises wearing a mask if you go out during the day, and rinsing your hair before going to bed. Finally, asthmatics must strengthen their treatment.
