Nearly one in three French people suffer from allergies. Symptoms : “running nose, itchy eyes, sneezing up to anaphylactic shock which can be life threatening”, lists Jean-Christophe Batteria on the set of 12/13. And the phenomenon affects more and more people: “In 1962 there were 3% of people with allergies, and according to researchers, one in two French people will be affected by 2050.”
Global warming, the main culprit
All of France is concerned, and the periods are longer. Because : “Plants stressed by warming emit more pollen with more allergenic proteins and longer.” Moreover, “drought accentuates the problem, because the rain flattens the pollen on the ground and prevents it from traveling too much”. There are remedies: “For mild allergies, it is advisable to rinse the hair, change the bed sheets. For more severe cases, the allergens in question must be identified with an allergist. Antihistamines or desensitization may be prescribed”. The process can take two months or several years.
