At 74, Gérard Larcher was re-elected senator in Yvelines. Unless there is any surprise, he should obtain, Monday October 2, a fifth three-year term on the board, the seat which is reserved for the boss of the hemicycle.
For 15 years, the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, has been present at almost all official events. He welcomed the sovereign British, but he is also in the front rows of the ceremonies, alongside of presidents of the Republic. His first appearance on television was in 1977. Doctor Larcher, veterinarian, treats the horses of the French team during the European Championships. Very quickly, politics caught up with him.
A key interlocutor of the majority
After becoming mayor of Rambouillet in 1983, he won a senatorial seat three years later. He is said to be a follower of consensus and benevolent, enough to become, in 2008, president of the Senate. Qualities that are still remembered on the Rambouillet market. “He knows a lot of people here by their first and last names”reports a woman. An emblematic figure of the Republicans, he will be a key interlocutor for the majority in trying to pass certain texts such as the immigration law.
