Mayor Bruno Marchand’s party beat out opposing political parties in 2021, when it amassed many more political donations in its first year of existence.
The newspaper obtained the 2021 financial reports of the various political parties that competed in the municipal elections last fall in Quebec.
Founded in March 2021, Mayor Bruno Marchand’s party, Québec Forte et Fière (QFF), raised donations totaling $136,000 in a short period of time, eclipsing by more than $43,000 Équipe Marie-Josée Savard, the formation of its main adversary.
Among the donors, we note the presence of two elected federal officials, Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and MP Joël Lightbound, who both contributed $200.
Mr. Lightbound had also publicly given his support to the candidate of QFF in the district of Pointe-de-Sainte-Foy, Jean-Luc Lavoie.
Generous kitty
QFF’s total revenue was $246,000. On the other hand, the party of former mayor Régis Labeaume, which became Équipe Marie-Josée Savard, had a larger prize pool of $1 million, due to the reimbursements to which it was entitled as an already well-established party, namely the research budgets, party allocations and election expense reimbursements.
However, in terms of donations, his fundraising totaled $92,000, of which the bulk, $90,000, consisted of amounts over $50, compared to $2,000 of contributions under $50.
For its part, QFF raised $9,000 from donations under $50 and $127,000 from donations over $50.
The party then led by Jean-François Gosselin, Québec 21, raised $52,000 in donations, the same amount as Transition Québec and Jackie Smith.
Démocratie Québec and Jean Rousseau raised $42,000.
