Political columnist Tasha Kheiriddin, originally from Montreal, is considering running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) and will make her decision “soon”.
“Over the past 48 hours, I have received many calls encouraging me to run for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. I am honored and I feel an obligation to take this seriously, ”she wrote on Twitter early Monday evening, in French and English.
“I believe recent events have brought the party and the country to a crossroads. The party must decide what it is and what it is not. The CCP is not a populist party. The CCP is not an American party. It’s a Canadian Conservative Party,” said the 51-year-old woman, who is bilingual and can be read in the National Post. “I look forward to sharing my decision with you soon,” she added.

Tasha Kheiriddin’s history with Canadian Conservatives goes back a long way. She was president of the Federation of Young Progressive Conservatives in the 1990s. In addition, she worked for MP Bob Layton and cabinet ministers Barbara MacDougall and Bernard Valcourt, before leaving active politics.
If she decides to run, she will face the MP for Carleton, Pierre Poilievre, considered the favorite. He announced on Twitter on Saturday that he was starting the race. “I would be a candidate to become prime minister, in order to give you back control of your life,” he said in French in a four-minute video.
Erin O’Toole stepped down as Conservative Party leader last week following a vote of confidence. Nearly 62% of Conservative MPs voted to fire him.
