Polish Open | Caroline Garcia ends Iga Swiatek’s winning streak on clay

(Warsaw) France’s fifth-seeded Caroline Garcia reached the semi-finals of the Polish Open on Friday, ending world No. 1 Iga Swiatek’s 18-match winning streak on clay.

Garcia won 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, breaking Swiatek’s serve in the 10e game of the decisive set to register a first career victory against the Pole.

Swiatek had not lost on clay since the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2021.

In the semi-finals, Garcia will cross swords with the Italian and 10e seeded Jasmine Paolini. The latter defeated Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In the other end of the draw, Ukraine’s Kateryna Baindl upset Croatia’s Petra Martic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Romania’s Ana Bogdan crushed Brazil’s Laura Pigossi 6-1, 6-1 .
