Policewoman hit by vehicle | Two suspects arrested by the SPVM

(Montreal) The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) has arrested two suspects in connection with a vehicle theft and serious assault that occurred on February 5 in the Montreal borough of Saint- Lawrence.

During an interception for vehicle theft, the driver made a dangerous maneuver and fled, hitting a police officer.

A 51-year-old man was arrested in L’Assomption on Thursday. He must appear Friday at the Montreal courthouse to face several charges, including aggravated assault, vehicle theft and receiving stolen property.

The West Criminal Investigation Division also arrested a 38-year-old suspect in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough on Thursday. She will also appear Friday for accessory after the fact, vehicle theft and receiving stolen property.

In a press release, the SPVM indicates that “attacking police officers is simply unacceptable.”

On February 5, around 6:20 p.m., two patrol officers from neighborhood station 7 (Saint-Laurent) carried out checks regarding a vehicle reported stolen on Halpern Street, near Highway 40.

The police officer then noticed another suspicious vehicle lurking in the area. The driver turned around when he saw them and fled. He was caught on Diab Street, where he stopped the stolen vehicle. The driver then put the vehicle in reverse and deliberately hit the police officer who was approaching with her colleague to question her.

The suspect then fled and the stolen vehicle was found abandoned a short time later. Injured, the policewoman is still recovering.

“Those responsible for the investigation have reason to believe that the suspects apprehended are linked to several vehicle thefts,” says the SPVM in the same press release.
