The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced this Saturday evening on Twitter the arrival in reinforcement of two units of mobile forces in Montpellier and Béziers, to “intensify the fight against drugs and insecurity”. A decision hailed by the mayor of Montpellier Mickaël Delafosse.

Gerald Darmanin announced this Saturday evening on his Twitter account. the Minister of the Interior affirms that two units of mobile forces, i.e. 160 law enforcement officers, will be deployed in the two Hérault towns, to “intensify the fight against drugs and insecurity“. A national measure, since other cities like Perpignan, Marseilles Where Lyons are also affected. At the same time, Beauvau intensified anti-rodeo controls everywhere on French territory.
Gerald Darmanin did not specify the date of arrival of these reinforcements, nor detailed the number of police officers and/or specific gendarmes sent to each of the two cities. The mayor of Montpellier reacted quickly, still on Twitter and said “welcome this decision for […] strengthen security in our city“. Mickael Delafosse adds that “safety is non-negotiable“.
