The attack came as Israeli forces intensified their ground offensive in the Palestinian territory of Gaza, in response to the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7. The conflict has left 1,400 dead in Israel, most of them civilians, according to Israeli authorities, and more than 8,300 dead in the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas.

The situation in the West Bank, occupied since 1967 by Israel, is also extremely tense. At a time when colonization is intensifying, the territory is affected by an increase in violence. PrNearly 120 Palestinians have been killed by fire from Israeli soldiers or settlers since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel.
