Police officer shoots car thieves, seriously injures one

A patrolman from the City of Montreal Police Department opened fire on suspected car thieves who were speeding towards him, near Vendôme station, in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district, Wednesday afternoon. At least one of the two suspects is said to have suffered serious injuries.


The police were alerted to a vehicle theft around 4:30 p.m., according to information from TVA Nouvelles. When they arrived at the intersection of Addington Avenue and Saint-Jacques Street, the suspects allegedly drove the stolen car into the patrol officers.

According to TVA Nouvelles, at least one of the police officers opened fire in the direction of the two suspected thieves with his service weapon. At least one of the two suspects was reportedly transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. It is not known if his life is in danger.

The investigation aimed at determining the circumstances of the event was transmitted to the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), as in all cases where a citizen is seriously injured or dies during a police intervention, reported TVA Nouvelles.
