A police officer was seriously injured by a knife attack by a man in the Champs-Élysées district on Thursday, July 18 in Paris. Another police officer opened fire on the suspect, who died from his injuries. “At this stage, there is no terrorist motivation,” said the Paris police prefect.
It is 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, when investigators from the judicial police leave the security perimeter, in a street parallel to the Champs-Élysées in Paris. A little earlier, in the early evening, a man armed with a knife attacks police officers. The circumstances of the attack are quickly known. After being turned away from a luxury boutique, the 27-year-old suspect flees, but is very quickly arrested by the police. Threatening with his knife, he resists and stabs a police officer. Another peace officer then uses his weapon to neutralize him.
Of Senegalese origin, in a regular situation, the attacker is not known to the intelligence services. “At this stage, there is no terrorist motivation”said Laurent Nuñez, Paris police prefect. Hit by gunfire from the police, the suspect died of his injuries on Thursday evening. The injured police officer is in critical condition, but his life is not in danger.
