Police officer dies in collision with school bus in Ontario

A police officer and a school bus driver died Monday morning in a violent traffic collision in the suburbs of Hamilton, Ontario.

The tragedy occurred around 7 a.m. at an intersection in the municipality of Woodstock.

The policeman was driving an unmarked car when he collided with the school bus, which was not carrying any students at the time.

The drivers of both vehicles succumbed to their injuries shortly after the accident.

The police officer who lost his life is Detective Steven Tourangeau, 35 years old. He was assigned to the Urban Violence Squad of the Ontario Provincial Police.

The identity of the bus driver has not been revealed.

The exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy have not been clarified by the authorities.

For the sake of transparency, the investigation in this case has been entrusted to the London Police Service.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, as two families mourn the loss of their loved ones,” Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrique said in a statement.

For the Ontario police force, this is the second tragedy in a short time to occur within its ranks. On the night of May 11, Sergeant Eric Mueller was shot and killed while responding to a call for noise at a residence in Bourget, near the Quebec border.
