Barricades set up by students were dismantled by around a hundred police officers equipped with riot gear.

A face-to-face confrontation with sticks and barricades, early on Thursday, May 2, on the campus of the University of California, in Los Angeles (United States). This blockade was methodically dismantled by the police. It took several hours for the police to overcome the demonstrators. “I would like the university to listen to the students and at least have a dialogue with them”estimates a demonstrator.

More than 1,600 arrests in the country

On campus, barricades were set up by pro-Palestinian students, before being dismantled by around a hundred police officers equipped with riot gear. The police also removed grilles and wooden pallets. All the tents were removed, and dozens of protesters were arrested. “Asking them to leave reminds me of the 60s and 70s”, regrets a demonstrator. On April 18, at least 108 demonstrators were arrested at Columbia University, even though the president asked the police to intervene. More than 1,600 arrests were made according to the New York Times.
