Montreal police intervened in a high school in the Pointe-aux-Trembles borough early Monday morning after threatening comments were made against the establishment on social media.
The Montreal Police Service (SPVM) says it was informed around 7:30 a.m. of threatening comments posted on social media against the Pointe-aux-Trembles school, located on Sherbrooke Street.
Police officers were deployed on site to carry out checks and the establishment for its part informed students and parents of “a situation which requires the school to be closed for the day”.
“Following the recommendation of the police, all students and staff members should not come to school, in order to give the police time to properly assess the situation. Police officers are currently on site to carry out the investigation,” we can read on the school’s website.
Just after 10 a.m., police confirmed the operation was “complete,” that no threats had been found and that the message was “at least a week old.”
“There is no threat at this time, but we are taking the event very seriously,” declared agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the SPVM, specifying that the police had “ “didn’t take a chance” and did some digging.
The establishment will remain closed for the day.
