An imposing police operation is underway at the Matane high school on Tuesday morning, where some 800 students and staff remain in “barricaded confinement” as a “preventive measure”, according to the Sûreté du Québec.
The police first reported a code black, the alert level triggered in the presumed presence of an active shooter near a school. An hour later, “in order not to harm the operation in progress”, the SQ simply indicated that the multipurpose school was subject to “preventive confinement”.
The authorities also erected a security perimeter around the school. Police officers from Rimouski, Amqui and Sainte-Anne-des-Monts are also participating in the operation.
Parents received a message shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday morning reporting a “barricaded confinement” in progress at the school. “We asked your children to turn off their ringtone, this measure is part of the protocol requested by the police. »
