Police and gendarmerie checks throughout the weekend in Haute-Garonne

The gendarmes and the police will be present at the roadside for this Ascension weekend. A bridge of four days. There will be road checks for speed, blood alcohol and narcotics: the police will keep an eye on things, especially in Haute-Garonne where the road safety figures are bad. Marc Zarrouati is sub-prefect and chief of staff of the prefecture: “In 2022, we already have to deplore 20 deaths on the roads of the department, while we had 16 between January and April. It is a tireless fight to make drivers aware that when they take the wheel, there is a certain number of things to respect in order not to put yourself in danger, not to endanger those close to you and not to endanger other road users, pedestrians, cyclists. There are still too many accidents Each time, it’s one less life and it’s a person who hasn’t realized that, the moments before, she wasn’t attentive or she considered that despite three glasses of alcohol, she was in good shape. So yes, it’s an ineffective long-term fight to change things, but it has to be fought.”
