In Oregon, New York and elsewhere in the United States, the cold has caused significant damage and complicated travel. Bad weather also offers some unusual and spectacular images.

In the United States, the landscape is paralyzed by frost, and trees bend under the weight of the snow. Oregon is used to freezing winters, but the second snowstorm in a week caused significant damage. A tree even split the roof of a house in two. “I thought the house was going to collapse on us and I screamed”, says a little girl. More than 50 people have died since the start of this wave of bad weather. Road accidents are numerous, and continuing on foot is not always easier.

New York under the snow

In New York State, entire neighborhoods are frozen under a thick layer of snow, hardened by blizzard gusts. Since the start of the week, thousands of flights have been delayed or canceled. One plane even ended up flying off the runway, unable to control its landing. Many schools are also closed. In Milwaukee, the frost makes for some fascinating images.
