(Washington) Poland will acquire US Patriot air defense systems for $15 billion, according to an agreement unveiled on Wednesday by the Pentagon.
An agency of the US Department of Defense, the DSCA (for Defense Security Cooperation Agency) indicated that the sale would include in particular up to 48 Patriot PAC-3 launchers and up to 644 missiles, as well as radars.
According to the DSCA, the State Department, which has authority over US arms exports, approved the sale.
“The sale, as proposed, will improve Poland’s missile defense capabilities and contribute to Poland’s goals of updating its capabilities as well as furthering interoperability with the United States and other countries. allies,” the agency said in a statement.
Patriot systems are designed to work even against high-speed missiles and aircraft.
They proved to be very effective in Ukraine, protecting Kyiv territory from Russian air attacks, including tactical ballistic missiles and hypersonic missiles.
