Poland and the Czech Republic close their airspace to Russian companies

An aerial no man’s land between Russia and Central Europe. Poland and the Czech Republic have announced that they will close their skies to Russian airlines, in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine on Friday (February 25th).

“The ban will apply from midnight”, the two governments said. The measure comes on top of the UK’s ban on Russian flag carrier Aeroflot, and Ukraine and Moldova’s complete closure of their airspace.

In response, Russia decided to ban all UK-linked aircraft from flying over its airspace. With European airlines canceling flights to Russia, such as Air France or the Polish LOT, the skies of Eastern Europe are empty, as shown by the Flight Radar site, which maps all civilian flights in direct.
