Around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, an argument reportedly broke out between two groups of individuals at the end of classes near St Thomas English Secondary School. The young victim was then stabbed in the upper body.

A motorist, who would have found the injured teenager, would have embarked him in his vehicle, in order to come to his aid. When first responders arrived, the young man was transported to a hospital, where he is still in critical condition.

The tragedy would not have occurred on school grounds, but rather on the street on Broadview Avenue, near John-Fisher Avenue, specifies the SPVM. “The incident allegedly took place at the end of classes and several students would have seen what happened,” said Darren Becker, director of communications at the Lester B. Pearson School Board, in an interview with The Press, Tuesday evening.

The School Board could not confirm if the 16-year-old victim is a student at St Thomas School. “But among one of the two groups, there were students from the school”, however specified the director of communications.

Mr. Becker said that the entire School Board community is “deeply disturbed and saddened” by this attack. Classes will be maintained on Wednesday at the secondary school, but support will be offered to students and staff. “We will ensure that mental health professionals will be available to the school community in the coming days,” he said.

In addition, Gregory Kelley, the Liberal MP for the Jacques-Cartier riding in the west of the Island, said he was “all heart with the family of the injured young person”. “I am also sorry for the staff and students who may have witnessed this traumatic incident. The whole school community will need our prayers in the days to come,” he posted on Facebook on Tuesday evening.

Three suspects were arrested in connection with this event, two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old. The scene was protected, in order to analyze it and an investigation was opened.
