(Ottawa) Less than 24 hours after the Conservatives lost their first attempt to overthrow the Liberal government, Pierre Poilievre is back on the attack.
His new motion, debated Thursday morning, states that the House of Commons has lost confidence in the Liberal government and “is instead offering Canadians the choice to eliminate the tax, build housing, fix the budget and stop crime.”
In fact, we find there the slogans that the conservatives have been using for months.
A majority of MPs voted Wednesday against a first motion of censure presented by the Conservative leader. The wording of this motion was contained in a single line: “That the House has no confidence in the Prime Minister and the government.”
The series of censure motions in the Commons comes after the New Democratic Party ended the support and confidence agreement that had given the minority Liberal government some stability since the start of 2022.
The Bloc Québécois gave the Liberals until October 29 on Wednesday to adopt two private member’s bills, related to supply management in agriculture and old age pensions, if they want to avoid a general election before Christmas.
