Poilievre asks Biden that unvaccinated Canadians can cross the border

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said he asked U.S. President Joe Biden to remove the U.S. government’s requirement that Canadians be vaccinated against COVID-19 before crossing the border.

After their meeting, Mr Poilievre told reporters that “millions of good, decent and honorable people” are “discriminated against” at the border, pointing out that Canada allows unvaccinated Americans to visit the country.

Poilievre met Joe Biden on Parliament Hill Friday during the president’s 27-hour visit to the nation’s capital.

The Conservative leader said he found Mr Biden to be a “friendly” and “decent” neighbor to Canada, and on a personal level he mentioned telling the president that the two men shared Irish heritage.

Poilievre said they discussed the need for Canada to strengthen its defense systems and invest in the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

The Conservative leader also reportedly expressed his desire to “bring fairness” to workers by seeing the United States exempt Canada from its “Buy American” policy in addition to ending tariffs on softwood lumber, which drives up costs and drives down wages, according to Poilievre.
