Podcast: Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Escape PHEV put to the test

As part of the show The Car Guide on QUB Radio, Antoine Joubert and Frédéric Mercier gave their impressions of the Ford Escape PHEV 2021 and Hyundai Santa Cruz 2022 recently tested.

Antoine recalled having tested a pre-production version of the Escape PHEV in the summer of 2020. He had then been able to cover more than 60 kilometers in all-electric mode aboard this plug-in hybrid vehicle. However, this new test in less favorable climatic conditions turned out to be more laborious. Antoine claims to have been able to cover only 39 kilometers in electric mode. He also laments the lack of all-wheel drive with this model, while rivals like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the Toyota RAV4 Prime can benefit from it.

For his part, Frédéric Mercier said he was impressed by all the attention received at the wheel of the new Hyundai Santa Cruz. This small van stands out for its funny look, but also for its roadworthiness. All Santa Cruz sold in Canada come with a 281 horsepower turbo engine. All-wheel drive is also standard. However, the starting price of nearly $ 40,000 and the efficiency of the dual-clutch transmission are to be put in the weak spot category.

The Car Guide, it’s every Saturday at 10 a.m. on QUB Radio, on Sunday at 2 p.m.
