The medically assisted procreation law (PMA) for all was promulgated a year ago, to the day. She opened the PMA to female couples and single women. Journalist Alexandre Hébert, present on the set of 23 hours, Tuesday, August 2, explains that hospitals are crumbling under demand: “The authorities and the doctors expected there to be a lot of requests, but not to this extent. In the first half of 2022, 11,926 files were submitted for an initial consultation.
On the files submitted, “4862 turned into a first date. We are in a single semester well above the government’s forecasts for the entire year, since it was counting on 2,000 to 3,000 new requests. Results : the times for access to a PMA are always longer, 14.8 months on average to benefit from it today, compared to around 12 months at the time of the law”explains the journalist. Single women represent 53% of people seeking assisted reproduction.
