This major tournament, which seems endless, is therefore at its last stretch and the winner will pocket the pretty prize pool of 3.6 million US.
But all is not over yet.
Colombian Sebastian Munoz recorded the best round of the competition at 65, and he is part of a group one shot from Lahiri along with Doug Ghim (68), Paul Casey (69) and Sam Burns (71).
Fourteen golfers are within three strokes of the lead, the gap Justin Thomas erased last year in the final round to win. The final round is due to conclude on Monday afternoon.
Lahiri would be an unexpected winner at this tournament, which features one of the strongest fields of the season. He has won nine tournaments on the Asian and European tours, and he took part in the Presidents Cup in 2015, but has never triumphed on the regular PGA Tour.
The Players Championship is the fifth highest-grossing tournament in the world with a total prize pool of 20 million. A victory comes with a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour as well as a three-year exemption from the Masters, US Open and British Open.
